Training
Where an employee may require additional training or supervision Making it Work employment staff will ensure that the employee is able to achieve the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Job Placement
While paid employment is the goal of the Making it Work program, for some individuals an unpaid placement may be a stepping stone to reach that goal. Job placement is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals and employers to explore whether the person is suitable for the job before paid employment is pursued.

Job Coaching
Job coaching is available on a time-limited basis to assist an employee to attain productivity that matches other workers. Job coaching service also helps deal with any work performance issues that may be identified by the employee or employer.

Job Retention/Follow-up
Job retention is an ongoing service, as needed, for individuals to maintain competitive employment. Services are provided while the worker is employed at your company to ensure that job performance continues to meet your satisfaction.  It also helps to create an environment of support by continuing to monitor the overall employment situation and staying in touch with the employee and employer.

Public Education on Mental Illness
Presentations/workshops/seminars are available upon request. Our resource and lending library provides excellent resource and educational material on all aspects of mental illness.

Employer participation in Making it Work is an invaluable resource that enhances our communities well being.  Making it Work makes good business sense, consider the following:

  • Ratio of Ontarians who experience mental illness in their lifetime: 1 in 5 (Health Canada)

  • Ratio of Ontarians who have family, friends or colleagues who experience a mental illness in their lifetime: 4 in 5 (Health Canada)

  • Often people with mental health issues meet with barriers to employment; however, with assistance, supports and opportunities, they do make excellent employees.

  • Participants also have strong soft skills which include dedication, enthusiasm, punctuality, reliability, task oriented, hard working with a willingness to learn and follow direction.

  • Meaningful employment improves the quality of life an individual can have with a mental illness. You can make a positive difference in someone's life by helping him or her reach their employment goals.

Participants in the Making it Work program have a wide array of interests and skills. Previous and current participants of the program have diverse backgrounds including high school to university education and experience in a variety of skilled areas of employment.

We welcome collaboration with community businesses/organizations as partners in creating work experiences, training, and/or full-time and part-time employment opportunities.
