Volunteer Opportunities


Kids on the Block

The Kids on the Block program relies heavily on volunteers for it's success.  Therefore, it is essential that volunteers be committed to the program, and give the coordinator as much notice as possible if unable to attend rehearsals or performances.  A CPIC is required and all volunteers will be reimbursed for cost.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Time commitment of approximately three hours per week

  • Attend rehearsals and performances as scheduled

  • Be punctual

  • Memorize scripts

  • Operate puppets

  • Help set up and take down equipment at performances

  • Acquire a basic knowledge about children's mental health issues

  • Answer children's questions at performances

  • Give coordinator as much notice as possible if unable to attend rehearsals or performances

Qualifications:

  • Highly motivated

  • Works well with others

  • Enjoys working with children

  • Is enthusiastic and likes having fun!

Social Recreation Volunteer

Social Recreation Volunteers work alongside staff with clients in social recreational programs.  This may include volunteering at a drop-in centre (REACH on weekdays, SAGE on weekends), helping with a meal, sharing your skills etc.

 

Reception Volunteer ( 2 hours per week)

The REACH Centre receptionist greets all guests and ensures that they sign in, answers the phone and takes messages, and oversees the REACH space.  Additional training with CMHA reception for relief reception work is an option.

Crisis Cupboard Volunteers

  1. Volunteers are needed to unload food supplies from the vehicle and carry to the downstairs Crisis Cupboard.  Items will be sorted onto shelves or into refrigerators.  Individuals must be able to lift 40 lbs.  Hours: every other Friday afternoon for approximately 3 hours.
     

  2. Volunteers are needed to assist the Crisis Cupboard during distribution.  Hours: every other Wednesday afternoon for approximately 3 hours.

Volunteer Coffee Counter Attendant:

 

Volunteers are needed to serve beverages and snacks at coffee counter locations.  Cash handling is also required.

Hours: Once per. week. 2hr/2.5hr or 4.5 hr shifts

Gardening Volunteer

Volunteers are needed to assist in tidying the gardens of CMHA-owned properties in Peterborough.  Duties will include weeding, trimming, shrubs and raking.  No mowing is required.  Hours: weekly at the convenience of the volunteer.  Residents may assist.
